Stockport College FREE Business Networking event held on March 3rd is part of our initiative to help local businesses continue to thrive even during times of recession. The event showcased our multi-million pound new build at the Town Centre Campus.
Official opening of the new build was by Cllr. Dave Goddard (leader of the council) Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
On July 22nd 2009 a celebratory event was hosted at the Pyramid, Stockport by Jon Bowen, Head of Customer Service for CFS.
The event was to celebrate all learners who, through the Lifelong Learning programme have achieved at least one externally accredited qualification.
In response to the Governments initiatives to ensure all employees have at least one up to date level 2 qualification by 2010, a regional bid was secured to support the work of Unite Union Learner Representatives in encouraging employees to access learning. Supported initially by Jon, a small learning centre was opened at the Pyramid site and was inundated with requests for advice and course information. To date over 2000 employees have been advised about a variety of learning opportunities, from the Open University to Tai Chi and we have over 40 employees who have achieved a level 2 qualification. We also have tripled that number in new learners as well. The success of this has resulted in a National Bid for the Finance Sector, which is funding setting up Learning Centres across all sites and helping to embed all types of learning into employees' development. CFS has signed the Skills Pledge and is a full partner in this new initiative.
As Jon Bowen commented, "It's really important to individuals and the business that colleagues embrace the concept of lifelong learning and use the skills learnt to enhance their confidence and help realise their potential."
The Unite the Union Learning Representatives would like to express their thanks to Jon, CFS and their external local providers, with special thanks to Stockport College, for all the support they have received now and for the future. They would also like to, along with all at CFS extend their congratulations to all who have achieved success since the start of the project.
Well Done All!!
